Descrizione
Corporate social responsibility or CSR (also called corporate social responsibility, CSR) is the set of actions that a company performs to help or favor the social environment in which it operates.
These are cultural, environmental actions, helping disadvantaged people or people with special needs, etc. Many companies want to brag about being socially responsible when they are not.
Corporate social responsibility is not just a matter of donations to NGOs, but it begins with compliance with ethical standards within the company, especially in relation to its workers : reconciliation of family and work life, integration of disabled people, equality between men and women, fair wages … it can hardly be credible that a company applies corporate social responsibility criteria if it does not start with its own employees, in fact there are (voluntary) regulations to certify that this is so.
Many companies want to boast of being socially responsible without being #RSE

That said, a company can be supportive and continue without being socially responsible. Are legion eCommerce companies in your shopping cart offer the ability to pay a little extra to donate the money to a worthy cause. That’s all well and good, but it’s not corporate social responsibility.
In fact, in many cases it is not even being strictly supportive, since it is the client who has to make the donation, acting as a mere collection channel. At a minimum, those companies that offer the customer to make a donation through their purchase (usually adding some cost to the consumer) should commit to doing the same, something that in many cases is nowhere to be seen. That would start to look like …
Be that as it may, corporate social responsibility gains strength as a highly valued element in the minds of potential customers, as well as being an important way to improve online reputation . CSR is closely linked to transparency, another of the great demands that today’s consumer has, with all the internet at their disposal for information.
That of corporate social responsibility is a big thing, right?
Well, no. It may be thought that a large company has more possibilities of dedicating resources to CSR actions, but don’t forget that very few are willing to take on the internal ethical commitments that corporate social responsibility entails.

That is why there are many large corporations that choose to sell a ‘light’ version of CSR based on donations to NGOs for solidarity projects. Commendable, no doubt, but not enough to be considered socially responsible companies.
Small companies can also be socially responsible. Not with money, yes with #RSC resources

An example of good practice in the field of corporate social responsibility is Google. The Mountain View giant is the benchmark for technology companies in their efforts to make things easier for their employees , from the design of offices to free food, game rooms, gyms, kindergartens and, above all, the freedom of schedules, something key to reconcile work and family life.
In addition, Google has endowed itself with an ethical code that is more than just a forgotten paper in a drawer.

The startup revolution has brought a new batch of entrepreneurs who, in many cases, have much clearer ethical values than their Jurassic predecessors in business leadership.
The ‘Google example’ has spread in the technology and marketing sector, where there is almost no office without at least one foosball table. The second part is missing: the tens of millions of dollars that Google (well, now Alphabet) allocates every year to projects, mainly educational, in the field of digital literacy and new technologies, in addition to ecology and energy efficiency . Projects that, in many cases, have been developed by the company’s own employees.
How can I be socially responsible if I am two candles away?
Corporate social responsibility is not just a matter of money. Based on the fact that you meet the minimum ethical standards already mentioned in your relationship with your workers, the corporate social responsibility actions that you can carry out are very diverse and do not have to entail a huge cost.
You may not have money to dedicate to corporate social responsibility actions, but you have other resources. For starters, you have a team of people that you can motivate to carry out or organize social actions.
And what can I do? It is best to focus on a field in which you and the people in your team feel comfortable and have something to contribute. Some examples:
- Patronage and cultural sponsorship . -Restoration of heritage. -Unregulated educational projects (adult education, technological projects with children, etc …)
- Donation of surpluses to community canteens in your environment, if you dedicate yourself to food.
- Cooperation in promoting solidarity actions and campaigns organized by third parties.
- Collaboration with the social volunteering systems of each city council.
- Environmental commitments such as being neutral in CO2 emissions (planting trees), comprehensive recycling of your waste, reduction of unnecessary packaging, consumption of clean energy, energy efficiency …
Undoubtedly, for increasingly larger sectors of the population, corporate social responsibility is an important attraction when making purchasing decisions and therefore becomes a marketing tool. But being socially responsible entails self-imposing a strict obligation of transparency.

This means that your website must contain detailed information on your corporate social responsibility actions both inside and outside your company, reporting how much or what resources you have invested and what results have been obtained. And it has to be true, or it will take its toll: Volkswagen marketed not so long ago cars (now we know that with the engine overhauled) along with the commitment to plant enough trees to neutralize its CO2 emissions. Now that the cake has been discovered, who is going to believe them again? Make sure that never happens to you.
