      Di seguito riporto le quattro idee progetto sviluppate dai quattro team di progetto. Sono in inglese, ma spero che non sarà un problema!

      C-TEAM

      Core Idea: Modena Do-It-Yourself Festival

      Activities

      - encourage an “alliance of the makers” which spans across generations (older technicians mechanics and chemical – eg. Ceramics – entrepreneurs and younger hackers interested in software, media and “open source hardware”
      organize a series of workshops to suggest and provide tools: Lego Mindstorms, basic robotics, stop-motion animation techniques etc.
      - ask participants to design and build an outdoor installation that the city at large can visit, enjoy and interactive with
      the installation could have a theme, and the theme could be to honour the history of individual entrepreneurs and engineers who built Modena’s industrial base almost from the ground up after WW2 (Memory Game). Officina Emilia and others are doing or have done micro historical research on this. Also it could be a way to give a more prominent role to the older people in the makers’ alliance and to appeal to the local identity (which translates into more people visiting the final installation)
      - it could even evolve into a trademark for locally invented artifatcs!

      Intended result is a renewed craftmanship ideology:

      - making things is cool!
      - Being passive spectator is NOT cool!
      - Everybody can be a creative and make public art installations!

      Goals

      - to create identity and skills
      - to connect tradition and innovation
      - to integrate ICT technology
      - to make links to the local culture and heritage,
      - to recycle and to exploit the expertise of older generation

      Why this project?

      because the industry in the region needs “fresh blood”

      ROUND 1 : THE CORE IDEA

      What is the central idea of the chosen project? What collateral ideas can you think of that could be connected with your core idea?

      THEMATIC FIELD: SPACES

      Industrial/residential area: right now not use as industrial (craftwork mainly) space.

      Strategic geographical area, near the Modena City Centre. Near other residence area.

      Possibility to use that buildings (most of them now in a bad situation). We are going to work on the idea of rehabilitate one or two buildings.

      GENERAL IDEAS:

      China and Modena, use the location of Chinese business in the are to create a community with those Chinese immigrants
      2 levels of thinking: a possibility to work with immigrants and involve this immigrants into the rehabilitation process, so they feel like important part, residents also
      And second level to buildings, create a space for creativities activities.

      Creative not need a great, clean, modern space, they need a place where create, they just need the building, they want to go in, and work there. But depends on the definition of creative people, others perhaps will need other kind of equipments.

      Possibility to have an office for a day, a week, others perhaps need a clean, open spaces, etc. (depend on the artist, creative people).

      Big opportunity is to put not so far artist, media lab, creative people, to imagine how to creative sector can use one building.

      Must be a flexible building, perhaps 2 buildings for different uses.

      Its difficult to decide because we don’t know if we are talking about 1, 2, 50 artists, creative people, to decide what to do.

      The subject is not decide what to do with the building, if not decide what to do with the area of the city. Its not an area without use, its not totally abandoned, the risk is about economical , possibility of these buildings, residential area, so would be more economical sustainable if is for residence use than for other uses.

      Find an idea to create a space a new image, a demand of that situation, a creative district.

      Perhaps if we talk only about one building, a creative space, could be no difference if that building is in that district, or in other part of the city…perhaps its better to think in general, to the whole district…

      For the municipality point of view, its necessary to think in general, for the whole district, and for others its better to concentrate into one building.

      If we rehabilitate one building, that’s has no answer for all the area. Perhaps we can start in one building but with the view to continue, not a unique actuation.

      We start for a building, we have to decide one or two buildings…firstly one.

      ONE BUILDING TO START.

      The typical building its with a living area, and the rest it’s the factory area. The new idea its that the building will have not place for living, only for creative activities. Only a place for work.

      Other idea is to have also a kind of hostel for creative people, from Modena and also from abroad, to stay and work of a time, sharing ideas and work for a time…

      Divide the space, or have more buildings, into creative areas (visual arts, etc) with the equipments necessary to work (people from Modena can use it also for their economical benefit, or for study, or for experiment), and rooms for people from abroad.

      Our core idea its what the creative idea need…creative contexts, big spaces… we can use the typical building to this area, and that building can give answers to different necessities. Flexibility.

      We don’t need to identify now the creative areas.

      Example, a building like this with a flexible space, that can be use in different way.

      Could be different buildings with the same design idea:

      1 part for residential area

      1 part for offices

      1 part for creative uses, lab

      The bank of opportunities

      Definition of Bank of Opportunities: the Bank starts virtual and becomes physical in a second step. It works mainly virtual to save the costs.
      Meeting the people who are customers is the physical contact with the bank itself.
      Website of the municipality contains the Bank homesite.
      Seeds form the most successful enterprises in the territory: names give credibility
      Credit and dept: if you don’t want to give back the info you get in some years, than you pay a sort of fine.
      Helping hands from people who contact you and you don’t need to meet them physically.
      Starting with no money basing on a economy of exchange.

      Goals: It gives the tools to start up and to support already existing industries.
      The bank has a list of members and that makes a sort of advertisement.
      Make network survival important.

      Activities: find out our testimonials, well known companies. Producing key documents. Producing documents with the support and help of creative industries.

      Significancy: it provides what mainly lacks in cultural Industries, builds the identity of a city, encourages Cultural Industries.

      Part I : BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT

      PROJECT IDEA derives from the identified needs and constraints of CI sector in MODENA:
      to overcome the struggles that CI face when introducing themselves individually in the market
      lack of relationships with the industrial and corporative world
      to identify different business models (e.g. sponsorship, “in kind” exchange)
      to strengthen the relationship with supporting creative events
      lack of organisational and fuctional structure

      Project idea is to establish COOPERATIVE AGENCY for collective marketing and aggregation of regional creative capacities which will function as an incubator for VIRTUAL ENTERPRISE. It will be a meeting point of demand and offer for CI products and CI services.

      PROJECT OBJECTIVES

      - better connection between Ci and traditional economy
      - to reach innovation
      - to create a logterm relationship, approach: within one-stop contact based on personal approach
      - to promote internatioalisation
      - to improve CI accessibility in market
      - help finding funds nd sponsors
      - to increase the nr. of enterprise
      - to promote cooperation through events
      - to revitalise the exiting CI in Modena with active involvement of AGENCY as decision-making or action.driven authority
      - to prepare project ideas from CI for integration in traditional industry

      To build a “culture of networking “– cooperation & learning between different CI sectors
      To create a VALUE CHAIN linking: traditional activities, cultural industry and innovation, creating new markets and services and business opportunities
      To aggregate the fragmented CI sector and link it to the market:

      Needs and market analysis
      Matchmaking
      Teambuilding
      Business support services
      Promotion

      ACTIVITIES

      In order to reach project objectives we define following project activities:

      - To set – up different work groups in relevant sectors including CI, traditional manufacturing, SME, High tech industry, Local business association and Public authorities, Media
